The Florida Aquarium features more than 20,000 plants and animals from both fresh and saltwater environments. The major exhibit areas reflect the diversity of Florida’s natural habitats – Wetlands, Bays and Beaches, Ocean Commotion, and Coral Reef. Recent additions include dives with mild-mannered sharks and sea turtles for certified divers over 14, a shallow water swim with reef fish and a shark-feeding program. The aquarium’s most impressive exhibit is the Coral Reef Gallery, in a 500,000 gallon tank with viewing windows, including an awesome 43-foot-wide panoramic opening. Part of the tank is a walk-through tunnel, almost giving the illusion of venturing into underwater depths. There is also an outdoor Explore a Shore Exhibit, an aquatic playground with a waterslide, water jet sprays, and climbable pirate ship.

Everglades National Park

The Everglades National Park is a 1.5-million-acre wetlands preserve on the southern tip of the U.S. State of Florida. Often compared to a grassy, slow-moving river, the Everglades is made up of coastal mangroves, sawgrass marshes and pine flatwoods that are home to hundreds of animal species. Among the Everglades’ abundant wildlife are the endangered leatherback turtle, Florida panther and West Indian manatee. Take thrilling airboat tours and then soak up more nature on a swamp buggy ride. The Park has three entrances in three different cities (Homestead (Main) Entrance, Miami Entrance & Everglades City Entrance) and they are not interconnected so check out where you need to by clicking on the link below. A car is needed at the Everglades because distances are long and there is no public transportation that travels within the park.
